MAS Event + Design Kicks Off Collegiate Experience Design Competition

BROOKLYN, N.Y., March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — MAS Event + Design, a leading experience design studio, invited the country’s best design and architecture undergrads to participate in a unique national student design competition, the 2019 Brand X Challenge.

This spring, teams of undergrads will design a hypothetical brand experience campaign for Uber Health, a HIPAA-compliant technology solution that allows healthcare providers to request rides for those they care for at scale by leveraging the Uber platform. Created to expose students to the fast-growing experience design sector, the experiences will span physical spaces, digital elements and social media channels. Three finalist teams will be selected, and one winning team will score a cash prize, summer internships with MAS and a trip to Las Vegas for the Brand X Awards gala, held May 15 at the annual Experiential Marketing Summit.

“We’re thrilled to support this unique opportunity for design students across the country,” said Dan Trigub, head of Uber Health. “Creating authentic brand experiences is an important part of deepening relationships with customers.”

Student teams will work directly with MAS experience designers to refine and enhance ideas, giving them a taste of real-world experience design. Media partner Event Marketer magazine will promote the program and its top-scoring teams online and in print to more than 1 million designers and marketers.

“Experiential design is such a new design discipline that most students don’t get a chance to study it in school,” said Mia Choi, chief creative officer and co-founder of MAS Event + Design. “We want to open this field up to emerging designers as a viable alternative to more standard design careers.”

Brand X is managed by the editorial team at Event Marketer. It begins with a nomination period this month during which teams sign up, followed by online learning briefings to get educated about experience design and the Uber Health brand. Teams will then be issued a creative brief on the hypothetical Uber Health program that they will begin creating. MAS designers will offer mentor reviews of students’ designs with advice and comments. Ultimately, designs are submitted and judged in April and winners notified in May. The program’s online presence is anchored at facebook.com/brandxchallenge.

“Anything we can do today to inspire the experience designers of tomorrow is time well spent,” said Jessica Heasley, Event Marketer content director. “We’re excited to play a role in this year’s Brand X.”
