Toronto Denture Clinic Celebrates 40 Years

TORONTO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / September 24, 2021 / Yonge and Davisville Denture Clinic is proud to celebrate over 40 years in business. Heikki Pellikka DD, the owner of the clinic has been providing the public with top-quality service since 1980. His accomplishments include teaching denturism students at George Brown College, his alma mater in the profession. He has also consulted for the College of Denturists in Ontario. His greatest joy, however, lies in the service he provides to his patients. The clinic was started in 1980 at 1962 Yonge Street, having been purchased from another denturist. In 2014 the clinic moved to 1849 Yonge Street.

Heikki started his training in Finland and moved to Canada in 1974, taking on different jobs while concentrating on his education. After finishing his schooling, he perfected his techniques and skills while working as a dental technician in Thunder Bay, Sault Saint Marie and in Lethbridge, Alberta. With a dream of becoming a licensed denturist, he moved to Toronto, attending George Brown College while supporting himself by working as a Janitor in the Sears building.

Toward the end of his studies, Heikki started working in the lab of one of his teachers. His drive to help people led him to eventually buy out the lab from his former teacher after receiving his denturism license. “I wanted to have complete control over the quality of the dentures that were being sold. After reaching a point where I could sustain myself off of my work, I found joy in making dentures that help people live better lives,” Heikki stated.

Heikki has gained a deep understanding of how having ill-fitting dentures or none at all impacted people’s lives. He learned how ill-fitting dentures meant sore spots in the mouth and over-application of adhesives to keep them in place. He also found that comfort and inconvenience problems drove patients to limit the amount and types of food they ate, sometimes leading to malnutrition. He found that problems with missing teeth or ill-fitting dentures can also cause people to limit their interactions with people because of embarrassment over their looks or inability to have a casual meal with friends. These people can easily become more isolated.

Ensuring the quality of the appliances being crafted for patients is the focus of the business. Once he became the owner of the lab Heikki struggled at first to fill all the roles in his new business. Balancing administrative duties while maintaining his high standard of craftsmanship wasn’t easy, but his ongoing dedication to quality and precision craftsmanship ultimately led his lab to grow to what it is today.

Over the years, the Yonge & Davisville Denture Clinic continues to use the best processes and practices to ensure that every denture is unique, made individually to fit each client and serve their needs. This has been a staple of the clinic’s operation since its opening in 1980.

Even though Heikki has been running the clinic for 40 years, he never tires of the results of his efforts. “I am proud of the positive impact that my clinic has had on the community. Even after 40 years of denturism, I am still excited to see how clients transform when they get their dentures. They can’t stop smiling when they see how the denture fits in their mouth, lighting up the room, excited to take control of their lives.” Heikki enthused.

Through these 40 years, first at 1962 Yonge Street and later at 1849 Yonge Street, Heikki estimates that he has treated around 20,000 patients. The clinic’s continuing success demonstrates the dedication of the clinic and staff to ensure that every denture is made to best fit each client. “Over the past 40 years, I have tirelessly refined my craft in pursuit of perfection, as it brings me joy to see the smiles return to my clients’ faces when they come in to pick up their new dentures.”

As Yonge & Davisville Denture Clinic marks their 40th anniversary, the story is not over yet. Heikki Pellikka and his clinic will keep working, continuing to find new ways and techniques to improve the dentures they produce.
