Nurses Rally to Close "Revolving Door" Staffing at VMC
Patient care is put at risk by loss of experienced RNs
(May 11, 2017)

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the 2,000 member Registered Nurses Professional Association (RNPA) will rally and march to call for an end to the "revolving door" staffing at Santa Clara County Health and Hospital Systems' facilities, including Valley Medical Center and the soon-to-be-opened multi-million dollar hospital bed building. The County's hospital system has been plagued by the loss of newly hired and trained nurses to nearby hospitals and the inability to recruit experienced nurses to provide quality patient care.

"The taxpayers of this county should not shoulder the costs of training new nurses so that they can go work someplace else," said Debbie Chang, President of RNPA. "We must make Valley Medical Center attractive enough so that new nursing school grads and experienced nurses come and stay here at Valley. Our patients deserve no less."

The rally occurs during National Nurses Week. As RNPA calls on the hospital administration to take the necessary steps to close the revolving door that sees newly trained nurses leave the system, placing an untenable burden on nurses that stay.
