(April 16, 2018)

SAN DIEGO, April 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Casa Palmera, a leading residential and outpatient alcohol, drug and mental health care center located in Del Mar, California, is hosting a group of pilots from commercial and private airlines for a week of specialized treatment, care and activities designed to address the specific treatment elements that are tailored to the unique nature of the safety-sensitive airline transportation industry.

The Professionals Program at Casa Palmera focuses on personnel from the airline industry, railroads, first responders, the legal profession, and the medical community. Although substance abuse and emotional problems affect people from all walks of life, professionals in these industries face additional pressures rooted in their work that this program works to include in treatment. No one is immune to the adverse effects of the disease of addiction or mental health problems; in the Professionals Program, Casa Palmera strives to achieve strategies that work for the personalities that are drawn to this kind of work.

"The annual pilot's retreat is a week of specialized care and treatment specifically for airline pilots, who face unusually high levels of stress on the job, which can lead to substance abuse," said Bruce Figuered, Casa Palmera's Clinical Director. "During the week, pilots will receive intensive and personalized counseling and treatment designed to help ensure they have the tools to cope with their career's unique stressors without turning to drugs or alcohol."

A Leading Addiction Treatment Center for Pilots

In 2012, Casa Palmera developed a unique treatment program specifically designed for the airline industry. Over the past seven years, Casa Palmera has become known around the world as the premier treatment center for pilots through their innovative approach to cognitive training. Today, the program has been expanded to serve professionals in other professionals in high-stress industries, with a private and confidential environment along with an individualized treatment plan that addresses the specific issues related to these careers that sets Casa Palmera's program apart.

Aviators must go through the Human Intervention Motivation Study or HIMS program and successfully complete all the required steps before they can return to the cockpit. These steps run the gamut from evaluation through discharge planning and aftercare, and the Casa Palmera program includes every HIMS step.

This week's Pilot Retreat complements the training session, culminating with a hang gliding session at the scenic and nearby Torrey Pines Glider Port. More than 25 pilots will be attending the week-long retreat.
