The Art of Dentistry Featuring Dental Implants

(May 07, 2018)

If you have missing teeth, you know how difficult it is to eat your favorite foods, talk, and even to smile.  Dr. Sol Weiss can help you solve this problem with dental implants.

What are dental implants?  They are tiny titanium posts implanted within the jawbone to replace the lost roots of teeth and to provide a foundation for dentures and crowns.  The titanium posts will eventually fuse to the jawbone through a process known as osseointegration; this process allows the dentures to stay in place, enabling the patient to eat, speak, and smile.

At the Art of Dentistry, Dr. Weiss will perform dental implant procedure over the course of two surgeries.  During the first surgery, Dr. Weiss makes a small incision in your gum line to implant the titanium posts in the jawbone; he will then suture it closed and allow four to six months for the posts to fuse to the jawbone. While the posts are fusing, Dr. Weiss will provide you with a temporary tooth restoration.  Once the fusion is complete, the patient is ready for the second surgery.  For the second surgery, the abutment pieces are implanted. After the gums have healed and the second surgery is complete, you will then receive a permanent restoration.
