Addressing Health Access Challenges for Transgender and Non-binary Community, Backpack Health Establishes Dedicated Group on its Health Data Management Platform

DOVER, Mass., March 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Backpack Health, LLC today announced the launch of a dedicated group for transgender and non-binary people within its health data management platform, helping the community manage their health journeys and connect with critical resources.  Backpack Health’s new group will engage the global transgender and non-binary communities and enable users to organize their health information and share it more easily with medical providers.

“The transgender and non-binary communities have specific needs that are very often not met in healthcare. From providers using the correct name and pronoun of a person when they enter a room, to understanding how to make more accurate and beneficial clinical decisions based on a fuller picture of a person’s health journey – both patients and clinicians stand to benefit from the power of Backpack Health’s new group,” said Cris Montgomery, Project Manager for Backpack Health’s new initiative. “This tool is especially crucial for those tracking hormone replacement therapies, surgery dates and other details.  While many providers are not aware of these treatments, with Backpack, transgender patients will be able to serve as educators for their providers as well.”

Backpack Health’s new group supports those who fall under the transgender spectrum –binary and non-binary people – by building a unified and empowered community, helping users access healthcare more easily. The platform allows users to store and track their health information, such as blood work, hormone replacement therapy, surgeries and post-op information, so that they can easily access it and share it with medical providers, caregivers, teachers, counselors and others. In addition to providing a centralized platform for all health information, the group also provides external resources, including medical provider directories, making it easy for individuals to find medical providers in their area that are competent in transgender related health concerns.

Backpack Health’s cloud-based health data management platform stores personal health records securely on any mobile device, providing users with full access and control of health information, with the ability to translate, share and transport all data on any device. The platform is available to users around the globe in six languages, including, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German, enabling a large percentage of the global transgender and non-binary communities to benefit from Backpack Health’s new group.

“The transgender community faces many unique health challenges, many of which stem from a lack of resources and understanding of needs by medical professional,” said Jim Cavan, CEO and Founder of Backpack Health. “We are thrilled to be able to extend this support to the transgender and non-binary community, helping them overcome the many challenges they face and break barriers in the medical field. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community is a part of our company ethos, so we are exceedingly proud to launch this group ahead of International Transgender Day of Visibility.”
