Arcadia’s Chief Medical Officer to Discuss Predictive Analytics at NEHIMSS

Dr. Rich Parker to share strategies for using predictive analytics to
target “actionable” patients for care management

BURLINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Population health management leader Arcadia.io
announced today Chief Medical Officer Rich Parker, MD, will deliver a
presentation at the New England HIMSS (NEHIMSS) Annual Spring Conference
on using predictive analytics to identify patients who are most likely
to benefit from care management programs.

In Parker’s presentation, “Care Management: Using Predictive Analytics
to Choose the ‘Actionable’ Patients,” he will share a next-generation
model of how health organizations can use predictive analytics to
support better patient stratification and improved care management. To
establish a successful care management program, health systems must be
able to accurately identify and target the patients who are most likely
to respond to interventions, as measured by improvement to condition and
reductions in cost and utilization.

Arcadia has developed an impact score to support this work. The
predictive model is based on a machine learning algorithm that leverages
organizational data from numerous disparate sources, including EHRs,
claims data, social determinant of health data, and medication
information. By using multiple data types, the predictive model can
identify impactable patients or groups of patients, including those that
may not have otherwise been identified. This enables healthcare
organizations to find patients who are currently low cost but at high
risk due to other factors such as disease burden, frailty or social
determinants of care – and then intervene before those patients become
high risk and high cost.

“Predictive analytics can offer powerful insights that help healthcare
organizations to identify patients most likely to respond to care
management, enabling organizations to achieve reductions in cost and
utilization while improving population health management,” Parker said.
“Today’s healthcare system is rapidly embracing the use of data but to
truly drive change in the industry with positive patient outcomes and
decreased cost, we must move beyond simple data collection to anticipate
the needs of patients.”

NEHIMSS will be held on May 16 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough,
Massachusetts. The industry event will feature discussions and
networking events with representatives from a number of leading
healthcare organizations within the healthcare technology, payer and
provider markets. Parker’s presentation is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to
9:15 a.m.

At Arcadia, Parker serves as chief medical officer with overall
responsibility for the design and implementation of clinical strategies,
input into the roadmap and development of Arcadia’s technology and
service programs, thought leadership in support of providers
transitioning to value-based care, and strategic advisory work for
physician leaders at Arcadia’s clients. Previously, Parker was an
internist with a 30-year history at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center. From 2001 until 2015, Dr. Parker served as the medical director
and chief medical officer for the 2,200-doctor Beth Israel Deaconess
Care Organization, where he oversaw the physician network evolve from a
fee-for-service payment system to a nationally recognized global payment
pioneer accountable care organization.
