Kit Check’s Agreement with Vizient Extended in Multi-Year Contract, Providing Better Visibility in Drug Diversion and Medication Tracking
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kit Check, the leader in automated medication management solutions for hospitals, today announced that Vizient has extended its agreement with the company for its Bluesight for Controlled Substances (BCS) as well as Kit Check’s kit and tray processing system. Vizient is the nation’s leading health care performance improvement company serving more than 50% of the nation’s acute care providers.
By using Kit Check’s Bluesight for Controlled Substances, an artificial intelligence-based medication diversion detection and discrepancy resolution solution, and Kit Check’s kit and tray processing system workflow program, Vizient members have access to enhanced savings on workflow opportunities throughout the supply chain journey. In addition to providing downstream visibility to track a particular drug from manufacturer to the point of use, the extended agreement also provides upstream tagging visibility, a new and innovative partner process that ensures the right drug is in the right place at the right time for the right patient, creating an accountable data journey for drugs and their origins.
Kit Check’s BCS provides visibility and insight into the large amounts of data that originate from dispensing systems and electronic health record (EHR) systems. The source-system agnostic platform provides 100% audit of the OR and nursing floors, allowing healthcare organizations to get ahead of diversion events before they happen. To date, BCS has audited or reviewed more than 3 million cases and Kit Check has tagged more than 80 million medications.
“We are proud to continue our agreement with Vizient to help hospitals and health systems implement tools, establish new policies to track controlled substance use in their facilities, and stay ahead of diversion risk by closing the gap with our programs,” said Kevin MacDonald, CEO and co-founder of Kit Check. “As evidenced by the opioid epidemic facing the U.S., drug diversion risk and mitigation is a top five challenge for hospitals and health care systems today. We know that diversion affects multiple groups, from patients to the hospital to the community as a whole, and with this enhanced initiative and extension, Kit Check can continue to secure and bolster Vizient members with innovative solutions including upstream tagging with the manufacturer at enhanced savings.”
In addition to Bluesight, the extended agreement also supports Kit Check’s RFID-based medication inventory tracking and automated tray processing. RFID tags combined with automation enables hospital pharmacists to easily track drugs coming in and out of their doors and removes the downtime associated with shortages and recalls.
“Partnering with Kit Check on both their kit and tray processing and Bluesight for Controlled Substances diversion detection software has greatly improved our workflow and supports our mission to improve patient safety by enabling more accurate tracking and authentication of medication through the entire supply chain, with the goal of reducing error rates to zero,” said Rosanne Thurman, corporate director of pharmacy, DCH Health System in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Kit Check’s Bluesight for Controlled Substances was recently recognized by leading analyst firm KLAS Research in its next-generation solution report “Drug Diversion Monitoring 2019, An Early Look at the Move to Next Generation Technology”. Bluesight received an overall performance rating of 93.2 out of 100, signaling its distinct ability to impact and stem opioid theft in provider organizations, with 100% of customers stating that would purchase the solution again and plan to utilize it for their long-term drug diversion strategy.
