Vibrent Health Innovates Rapid Deployment Solution for COVID-19 Survey, Scaled to Over 325,000 Participants in NIH All of Us Research Program

Vibrent Responds to Urgent Need to Help Researchers Understand Impact of Pandemic, Accelerates Implementation of COvid-19 Participant Experience (COPE) Survey

FAIRFAX, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Health technology organization Vibrent Health, which serves as the Participant Technology Systems Center for National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, responded to the program’s urgent need to gather data during the current pandemic by rapidly developing and deploying a COvid-19 Participant Experience (COPE) Survey, sent to more than 325,000 participants in the program.

“With our team’s extensive experience in rapidly implementing digital health research surveys that are delivered to large populations, we were able to accelerate the timeline for the COPE Survey deployment,” said Praduman “PJ” Jain, CEO, Vibrent Health. “We feel gratified to be part of this monumental effort to collect COVID-19 related data that will help researchers better understand the impact of the pandemic on physical, mental health, symptoms, social support, social distancing, access to care, substance use, lifestyle, resilience and social determinants.”

Vibrent, architects of the Digital Health Solutions Platform (DHS), a cybersecure, proven-at-scale solution for digital health research, met the demands of the COPE Survey timeline of less than two weeks.

The Vibrent Digital Health Solutions Platform enables researchers to rapidly deploy standardized measures from survey systems they use for everyday research into their own research programs. Researchers can also integrate these surveys and survey responses with any fast healthcare interoperability resource (FHIR) capable systems, such as electronic health record (EHR) systems.

“Using the Digital Health Solutions platform, we can help other small, medium and large research projects to implement their vision more quickly than ever before,” said Mark Begale, Vice President of Vibrent Health. “Our platform supports multiple languages, as well as mobile and web platforms to support diverse and underserved populations as they participate in health research.”

The All of Us Research Program developed the COPE survey module to collect information about how COVID-19 is impacting All of Us participants. Sections in the survey address social distancing experiences, COVID-19 symptoms, COVID-19 testing, mood, stress, loneliness, discrimination, anxiety and other aspects of physical and mental health.

The module has been deployed to more than 325,000 participants who had already completed the first “Basics” portion of their enrollment, which includes inputting personal health information, such as health history. So far more than 52,000 participants have completed at least one COPE survey in May or June. This longitudinal survey will be repeated every 30 days throughout the pandemic to gauge changes in the reactions of participants.
