NextGen Virtual Visits™ Keeps Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists Connected to Patients

Largest Private Cardiology Practice in Virginia Expanded Offerings Using Telehealth During COVID-19

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–$NXGN #AmbulatoryHealthcareNextGen Healthcare, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXGN), a leading provider of ambulatory-focused technology solutions, today announced that Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists (VCS), the largest private cardiology practice in Central Virginia, implemented NextGen Virtual Visits™ to expand care and treatment to patients for non-urgent visits that were disrupted by COVID-19.

After a short implementation, the integrated and purpose-built telehealth solution enabled the cardiovascular group to resume routine appointments after they initially saw in-person visits decline from the global pandemic. Learning how to use NextGen Virtual Visits at the practice’s eight locations across Virginia was straightforward for VCS staff since the solution is part of NextGen® Enterprise. During virtual visits, VCS physicians were able to review current cardiac concerns or problems, answer questions, manage and refill medications, follow-up on recent procedures, share lab or test results and provide patient education.

“NextGen Virtual Visits integration was seamless, and our patients were using the technology within days and doctors were able to document health information quickly within their current workflow,” said Patrick Toomey, assistant administrator for VCS. “This platform enables our cardiologists to continue vital patient care, which potentially saves lives.”

“Specialty practices such as VCS are successfully using our telehealth solution to not only maintain their patient volume during this health crisis, but also improve patient outcomes and experience,” said John Beck, Chief Solutions Officer, NextGen Healthcare. “As considerable risk and uncertainty with COVID-19 persists, many cardiac patients depend on virtual visits to more safely engage their providers and care teams.”

According to the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), only two percent of all ambulatory outpatient visits were conducted via telehealth prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Going forward, the ATA projects 60 percent of ambulatory care will be delivered remotely.
