OTTOWA, ON / ACCESSWIRE / September 23, 2020 / Pamela Fralick, President of Innovative Medicines Canada, issued the following statement in response to today’s Speech from the Throne:
“COVID-19 has shown just how critical the life sciences sector is to Canadians’ health and well-being. Today’s Throne Speech further acknowledged its importance with its focus on ensuring Canadians have access to the medicines they need, when they need them, particularly those with rare diseases.
“Canada’s innovative medicines sector is also committed to ensuring Canadians have access to the medicines and vaccines they need to live longer, healthier lives. That is why, over the last five years we have put forward to the federal and provincial governments concrete proposals that will ensure Canadians have timely access to the world’s most innovative medicines, including those for rare diseases. The proposals will also ensure that Canada remains an attractive place for clinical trials and new drug launches, in addition to fostering health care innovation at home and attracting investment from abroad.
“We look forward to hearing more details of the government’s plans as they work to implement the commitments they have made today. As always, Canada’s innovative medicines companies stand ready to work collaboratively with the federal and provincial governments to develop and implement solutions that will benefit all Canadians, throughout the current public health crisis and beyond.”
