Lifesum Compares Popular At-Home Exercise Brands to See How Much Time and Money it Takes to Lose 10 Pounds by Summer

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Which is the best at-home exercise equipment to buy if consumers want to lose 10 pounds by summer?

The nutrition app, Lifesum, recently compared the most popular at-home exercise equipment to see how much time and money consumers must spend with each brand to burn 200 additional calories/day or 6000 calories/month.

The general consensus among nutritionists is cutting an additional 100 calories a day from the diet will drop 10 pounds in a year. Doubling that goal to 200 calories a day is a reasonable and safe approach towards losing 10 pounds by summer, according to Lifesum nutritionists.

Under the analysis, Lifesum nutritionists looked closely at the popular at-home exercise brands: Mirror, Nordictrack, Peloton, Tonal, Tempo, On-Demand Yoga, Hydrow Rowing Machine, along with Crossfit/HIIT classes. They pulled the suggested calorie burn rate and equipment cost from the brand’s website during the first week in December.

Cost and Time Comparison with Popular At-Home Exercise Equipment

If consumers are short on cash but have extra time on-hand, Lifesum nutritionists found On-Demand Yoga is the cheapest at-home workout to burn the required 6000 calories a month. The yoga routine was priced at $19.99 a month, but it also required the most amount of time: roughly 20 hours a month to burn an additional 6000 calories.

Crossfit/HIIT classes were the best approach for people short on time who can afford the extra cost. The high intensity workout programs require roughly 8 hours a month to burn an additional 6000 calories. Prices for classes vary by region and instructor, but on average, it’s about $20 per class or $160 for the month.

The heavily advertised brands – Peloton, Nordictrack, Tempo and Tonal – were all priced in a similar range, costing roughly $95/month to burn an additional 6000 calories each month. It would take roughly 11-12 sessions a month to burn the required monthly 6000 calories from January to June.

Registered dietitian and nutritionist, Christina Jax, says if consumers are buying at-home equipment in the New Year, it’s important they adjust their diet to achieve maximum results.

“You can’t out-run a bad diet,” said Jax. “If you’re going to spend 12 hours on a bike or 20 hours a month doing yoga, you need to also eat properly or you won’t achieve the results you want. Proper nutrition is critical to achieving healthy weight. If you eat just two extra slices of pizza a month, that’s over 600 calories or roughly one Peloton or Mirror class just to burn off those additional calories.”
