A Streamlined Path for Medical Supplies to Bypass Port Congestion

SOMERSET, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#logistics–Advent eModal, provider of the eModal® suite of applications that simplify and accelerate the flow of cargo across the intermodal supply chain, recently announced the ability to streamline the movement of containerized medical equipment supplies. Working with SSA and ITS terminals within the Port of Long Beach, Advent eModal introduced an expedited process and digital toolsets enabling beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) to expedite the movement of containers with vital medical supplies so they can more quickly get into the hands of healthcare providers and frontline workers.

In a joint statement released by the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) and the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA), the medical supplier associations noted, “The proactive leadership of the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, terminal operator SSA Marine and its technology partner eModal are helping us find solutions to today’s supply chain challenge. We will continue to engage with ports and other transport system stakeholders to identify impactful ways to expedite medical supplies and equipment.”

By registering with eModal as an approved medical equipment supplier, BCOs have access to a special area in the eModal platform to provide relevant container, vessel, and terminal details. This information is then digitally provided to the terminal operator where the containers are approved for expedited motor carrier pick up without the need to book an appointment at the terminal.

“We want to thank our marine terminal partners, the Port of Long Beach, AdvaMed, HIDA and the ISEA for highlighting this critical need. Working together, the industry leveraged the core building blocks of the eModal platform, and within three days developed an end-to-end workflow to expedite medical supplies cargo,” stated Niraj Bhatt, Advent eModal’s Senior Vice President of Technology. “It was the need of the hour and the eModal team responded like champions. Our systems are built on solid foundation which allows for rapid scale.“
