Videos in Telehealth Waiting Room Engage and Empower Patients

NEW YORK & ROCKVILLE, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DrFrist–Populus Media, a pioneer in marketing and patient acquisition solutions leveraging telehealth and virtual care, today announced the expansion of their media network by adding health technology leader DrFirst to its expansive roster of telehealth partners.

Beginning January 2022, patients whose healthcare providers use Backline by DrFirst for telehealth services can view Populus Media’s educational content about managing chronic health conditions while they wait for their video consultation to begin. The content is curated specifically for the patient, based on the reason for the healthcare visit or the provider’s specialty, such as offering heart disease education for patients seeing a cardiologist.

Targeted education is a critical element that helps patients better manage chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, which are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. The patient-specific educational resources offered by Populus Media can help healthcare providers maximize reimbursements by meeting meaningful use requirements set by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Patients can play the videos from any device they use for their telehealth visit, including cell phone, tablet, or computer. The videos will stop playing as soon as the healthcare provider starts the consultation, so it does not add any wait time.

“We are excited and thrilled to be partnering with DrFirst. Their focus on connected care and patient education for chronic illness is a leading example of the future of virtual health. The Populus sponsored content integration will only enhance that focus,” said Ray Rotolo, chief growth officer of Populus Media.

DrFirst looks for innovative ways to empower patients with information that can help them make informed decisions about their health, according to G. Cameron Deemer, president of DrFirst. “Staring at a blank screen, wondering when the doctor will start the telehealth visit can tempt patients to surf the web or even step away from the computer,” said Deemer. “Using this time to offer practical, educational information about their chronic health conditions can improve outcomes and keep patients engaged while waiting for their telehealth visit to start.”

Backline, DrFirst’s award-winning care collaboration platform that includes telehealth, is fully HIPAA-compliant and is used by healthcare providers in all settings, including hospitals, doctors’ offices, mental health practices, and emergency medical services. The app is user-friendly for people who are not tech-savvy or are unfamiliar with video conferencing and allows clinicians to securely share documents, forms, images and obtain e-signatures.
