Hospice of Westchester Announces Expansion of Shereff Family’s Sponsorship

WHITE PLAINS, NY / ACCESSWIRE / February 10, 2022 / Hospice of Westchester (HOW) is pleased to announce the expansion of the Shereff Family’s sponsorship to now include the organization’s Bereavement Program. Rochelle Shereff, daughter-in-law of longtime HOW supporter Anna L. Shereff, spearheaded this enhancement.

HOW offers a wide range of Bereavement Services to families of patients, and the program typically operates primarily on funds from contributions and grants. Services are offered to family members for up to 13 months following the loss of a loved one, and include group counseling, individual counseling, workshops and special events. Professional bereavement care is also offered to all members of the community in addition to HOW patient families.

“Bereavement Services are one of the most important parts of Hospice’s program, and I am thrilled that we are adding the Shereff name to this important work,” said Rochelle Shereff. “I know my mother-in-law would feel the same way. It makes me feel wonderful to help support something that not only she believed in, but that I believe very strongly in as well.”

The late Anna L. Shereff began supporting HOW following the death of her daughter. She was able to care for her daughter at home with the help of a hospice program. Due to the vison and generosity of Mrs. Shereff, The Anna & Louis H. Shereff Caregiver Program was established in 1995 in memory of her late husband. The program assists patients who lack other resources employ a caregiver, allowing these patients to receive care at home instead of in a hospital or skilled nursing facility.

In addition to its traditional hospice services, HOW was the first hospice organization in Westchester County to establish a Complementary Care Program in 2000. In 2012, Mrs. Shereff expanded her sponsorship to include this program, which offers patients services such as massage therapy, reflexology, art therapy and music therapy. These complementary care services have several proven benefits, such as reducing patient anxiety, blood pressure and pain while enhancing quality of life. HOW offers complementary care services tailored to the individual needs of each patient and family at no cost thanks to The Anna & Louis H. Shereff Complementary Care Program.

“Mrs. Shereff was adamant about supporting initiatives that helped enhance our patients’ lives. In addition to providing care for patients, HOW also provides much needed support to their families. Rochelle’s sponsorship of the Bereavement Program underscores the importance of this work and is the perfect extension to Mrs. Shereff’s vision,” said Mary K. Spengler, MS, LNHA, CEO of HOW.
