Avinger Reports Second Quarter 2023 Results

REDWOOD CITY, CA / ACCESSWIRE / July 27, 2023 / Avinger, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGR), a commercial-stage medical device company developing and marketing the first and only intravascular image-guided, catheter-based systems for diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease, today reported results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2023.

Second Quarter and Recent Highlights

  • Second quarter revenue of $2.0 million, and gross margin of 30%
  • Received 510(k) clearance and initiated limited launch for Tigereye ST, Avinger’s next generation image-guided CTO-crossing device, with full commercial launch anticipated in the third quarter
  • Received 510(k) clearance for the new Pantheris LV (large vessel) image-guided atherectomy device, and initiated limited launch in the third quarter
  • Advanced development of the first-ever image-guided coronary CTO-crossing system through successful completion of the first round of animal studies and preparing for a second round of animal studies at a leading clinical center in the third quarter
  • Continued to generate excellent clinical outcomes data in the treatment of advanced disease in the Pantheris SV IMAGE-BTK study (small vessel, below-the-knee), with full enrollment expected to be completed in the third quarter
  • Avinger’s technology, products and clinical data featured in multiple key opinion leader (KOL) presentations at the Charing Cross, New Cardiovascular Horizons and LINC clinical conferences, with additional podium presentations scheduled at the AMP conference in August

“We received 510(k) clearance for two exciting new devices in the second quarter, completing development of the most advanced peripheral products portfolio in the industry, and providing the opportunity for two important new product launches in the second half of this year,” commented Jeff Soinski, Avinger’s President and CEO. “With our expanded product portfolio and portable Lightbox 3 imaging platform, a growing body of clinical evidence demonstrating unsurpassed clinical results with our proprietary image-guided devices, and strategic investment in our sales team, we believe Avinger is well positioned for growth in the coming quarters.”

“We intend to advance the Tigereye ST CTO-crossing system to full commercial launch in the third quarter, having now completed more than 30 cases with excellent results during our limited launch process. In addition, we have commenced a limited launch of the recently cleared Pantheris LV device and if all goes according to plan expect to move to full commercial launch in the fourth quarter. We are excited about the potential for these innovative devices to bring new capabilities to our platform and expand the addressable market for our products.

“In support of our clinical expansion, we continue to document best-in-class clinical outcomes in a variety of challenging patient cases. This includes the most recent podium updates at key conferences on our IMAGE-BTK study, which we anticipate achieving full enrollment this quarter. The interim data from this study continue to show outstanding clinical outcomes in the treatment of advanced disease below-the-knee, with 96% freedom from target lesion revascularization (TLR) and 93% vessel patency at 12-months, and 100% freedom from major adverse events across enrollees.

“We are also making substantive progress on the development of our first coronary product application, designed to provide a superior, simplified, and more certain image-guided solution to cross chronic total occlusions in the coronary arteries. We have now completed our first round of animal studies and expect to complete a second round of animal studies at a top KOL center in the third quarter, as we work towards our goal of filing an IDE application with the FDA in the first half of next year to allow for initiation of a clinical study in 2024.”
