Growing Need for Integration Led FQHC to Select NextGen Healthcare

REMOTE-FIRST COMPANY/EAGLE PASS, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#NextGenHealthcare–Driven by its mission of delivering high-quality, affordable healthcare across highly bilingual communities on the United States-Mexico border, United Medical Centers (UMC Health) has chosen NextGen Healthcare as its healthcare technology partner. NextGen® Enterprise electronic health record (EHR) and NextGen® Enterprise practice management (PM) will boost integration across specialties and sites of care as the organization grows and adds new services.

UMC Health is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) that has served the southwest Texas cities of Brackettville, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass since 1973. With nine locations, the center offers family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric care, obstetrics-gynecology, cardiology, podiatry, dental and pharmacy services. Mammography services launch this spring and a 10th location opens later this year.

The health center is also adopting NextGen® Patient Engage and NextGen® Self-Scheduling powered by Luma, which will enable patients to self-schedule appointments, join waitlists for faster appointments, complete intake, and engage with staff from their mobile devices in more than 20 languages. NextGen® Mobile will help UMC Health’s providers achieve better work-life balance by enabling them to chart from home or anywhere on their phones.

“We are always thinking about how we can elevate care delivery. It became apparent in recent years that improving integration and alleviating the documentation burden on staff were key priorities,” said William Worrell, chief executive officer, United Medical Centers. “NextGen Healthcare’s offerings will allow us to make significant strides in those two areas so we can focus on doing what we love—serving these close-knit communities.”

“United Medical Centers has made an incredible impact in southwest Texas for more than five decades and has a rich understanding of the unique needs of the communities it serves,” said Srinivas (Sri) Velamoor, president and chief operating officer, NextGen Healthcare. “It is a privilege to support UMC Health’s important work through our integrated platform that helps engage patients while also enhancing provider capacity and care quality. At NextGen Healthcare, we remain committed to supporting FQHCs who are helping their communities thrive.”
