Nevada Transplant Institute, in Partnership With Renown Transplant Institute, Seeks Patients in Need of Kidney Transplant Surgeries

New Institute currently offering screenings, launches 1-833-RING-NTI

LAS VEGAS, NV / ACCESSWIRE / October 7, 2024 / The Nevada Transplant Institute® (NTI), in partnership with the Renown Transplant Institute®, is currently seeking patients for its first series of kidney transplant surgeries. With the launch of its 1-833-RING-NTI phone number, potential patients can call today to schedule screenings.

NTI is poised to address critical disparities in access across Nevada to end-stage organ failure care and develop transplantation services with a team of distinguished professionals at its helm. As northern Nevada’s first kidney transplant program, residents in need of advanced kidney treatment and transplantation will no longer need to endure long waits or seek residency or care in other states, which will help alleviate the financial, physical, and emotional burden for critically ill patients and their families.

“With the support of our partners, we have been working tirelessly to expand transplantation services in the state of Nevada and that day has been realized,” said NTI Founding Chair Joe Ferreira. “Currently, 90 percent of the lifesaving organs recovered from our heroic donors are being sent out of state, where our residents have to travel to get the care they need; now, with the advent of NTI, we will begin to turn the tide and serve more Nevadans here at home and introduce critical kidney transplantation services to northern Nevada.”

The need for additional organ transplantation expertise across the U.S. and Nevada is critical. Across the U.S., 16 people die each day because an organ does not become available and every 8 minutes someone is added to the waiting list.

Kidneys are the most sought-after organ for transplantation. UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) reports that there are close to 90,000 people on the national kidney transplant waitlist. Because of the lack of transplant surgeons and organ availability, only 21,042 deceased donor kidney transplants were performed in 2023. In Nevada, 575 people are currently on the kidney transplant waiting list. Many of them are northern Nevadans in need.

Guiding the NTI as its Director and Executive Vice President is Ernesto P. Molmenti, MD, PhD, MBA. Molmenti is a highly skilled and experienced transplant surgeon specializing in abdominal organ transplantation. He has 25 years of experience in performing successful transplant surgeries and is dedicated to improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Dr. Molmenti will be supported by Nevada Donor Network President and Chief Executive Officer Ferreira, as founding chair; and expert consulting NTI faculty members, Dr. David Mulligan and Dr. Harrison Pollinger, whose leadership careers in transplantation and commitment to excellence will ensure the institute’s success in delivering optimal outcomes for transplant recipients.

The NTI, a non-profit organization, aims to provide transplantation-related resources statewide in collaboration with hospitals, community partners, healthcare providers, and payers.

If you are a person with end-stage kidney disease and wish to be screened for a kidney transplant, please contact the Nevada Transplant Institute® transplant coordinator at 1-833-RING-NTI.
