Among the highlights of 2024 was the debut of Safe Haven Baby Boxes’ reality show series, Baby Boxes, which premiered in July. The 15-episode series gave viewers an intimate look at the organization’s operations, featuring first responders who heroically rescue surrendered infants and candid moments from the team led by founder Monica Kelsey. One of the most heartwarming moments of 2024 came in October when Monica and Joe Kelsey were blessed to meet Zoey. Zoey’s birth mother used Florida’s first Safe Haven Baby Box to safely surrender her baby girl. Firefighter Vincent, who retrieved the infant, and his wife Katie, who had been trying to adopt for over a decade, welcomed the baby into their family. The adoption was finalized in April 2024. This story beautifully illustrates the hope and love that Safe Haven Baby Boxes aim to provide for every baby and mother.
Founder Monica Kelsey, honored this year with Indiana’s Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the state’s highest civilian recognition, reflected on the year’s accomplishments: “Every surrender is a testament to the bravery of birth mothers and the compassion of communities that embrace these babies with open arms.
