Consumers Concerned About their Healthcare Data Being Compromised as Hospitals Balance Innovation with the Fundamentals

Report on clinical data reveals a challenging environment for hospitals and health systems alongside growing concerns from patients about their data

CHICAGO, Feb. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Balancing financial pressures with the urgent need for innovation will continue to be a focus for healthcare organizations, according to a report from clinical data solutions provider, Q-Centrix. The report highlights key challenges and opportunities facing hospitals and health systems and shares findings from a consumer survey on patient perceptions of data accuracy and security.

The report emphasizes four critical areas that are foundational to a hospital’s success:

  • Maintaining quality patient care
  • Enhancing operational efficiency and financial stability
  • Ensuring data accuracy
  • Strengthening data security

The report also dives into the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. While AI holds immense promise, the report stresses that its implementation must be deliberate and mindful of healthcare’s high stakes. Other less talked about areas of innovation shared in the report include re-imagining research to drive more diverse patient populations and generate revenue, and ensuring that the growing trend of hospital mergers and acquisitions leads to sustainable success.

“As hospitals and health systems navigate a complex healthcare landscape, it’s essential to view clinical data as a tool that can lend insights into almost any area within the hospital, viewing not as a cost center but as a strategic driver of revenue and innovation,” said Raghu Bukkapatnam, Chief Growth Officer at Q-Centrix. “When used effectively, clinical data enables healthcare organizations to achieve both foundational goals and future-forward objectives, transforming care delivery for better outcomes.”

The report also delves into patient perspectives on data accuracy and security. Per a recent survey:

  • 82% of consumers are worried about errors in their healthcare data.
  • 62% reported finding errors in their records, with 60% of these errors deemed significant enough to have a large impact on care or treatment.
  • 86% of respondents expressed concern about their healthcare data being compromised in a breach.

“It is unquestionable that advancements in medicine are significantly dependent on accurate and secure clinical data,” noted Brian Foy, Chief Product Officer at Q-Centrix. “In a digital landscape where data is now being shared more widely and is becoming increasingly valuable,  consumers must understand how and why their information is used by hospitals and health systems.”
