Obesity Care Week 2025 Concludes with a Global Commitment to Care

TAMPA, Fla., March 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As Obesity Care Week (OCW) 2025 comes to a close, organizers and supporters are reflecting on a week of impactful advocacy and awareness. The year’s theme, “Commit to Care,” inspired widespread engagement and action towards accessible, affordable and compassionate care for individuals affected by obesity.

Thousands of people around the world participated in meaningful conversations about obesity, shared educational resources and advocated for policy changes. Healthcare professionals, patients and advocates joined forces to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Proposed Rule to expand coverage for FDA-approved obesity medications.

“The response to Obesity Care Week 2025 has been inspiring,” said Joe Nadglowski, President and CEO of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). “We’ve seen countless individuals raise their voices to advocate for advancing obesity care. But it can’t stop here. The work must continue year-round.”

Despite affecting more than 42% of U.S. adults and 19% of youth, obesity remains undertreated, with only four in 10 patients receiving appropriate weight counseling from healthcare professionals. OCW emphasizes the urgent need for ongoing education to address these gaps, combat obesity stigma and expand access to evidence-based treatment options.

As the campaign concludes, OCW encourages continued public involvement through advocacy efforts and resource sharing. Individuals are invited to take the “Commit to Care” Pledge at ObesityCareWeek.org to keep up the work.

OCW is supported by Founding Champions, including the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, The Obesity Society (TOS), American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA). It is also backed by more than 160 supporting Champion organizations and is sponsored by: Diamond—Eli Lilly and Company; Silver—Novo Nordisk; Bronze—Regeneron; Patron—Amgen, Genentech; Supporter—Boehringer Ingelheim, Boston Scientific, Currax Pharmaceuticals, Prosciento and Rhythm Pharmaceuticals.
