“Superhuman Body 3D” Explores the Inner Workings of the Human Body and hopes to inspire the next generation of bioengineers and medical scientists when it opens at the California Science Center IMAX Theater

LOS ANGELES, March 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Audiences can explore the inner workings of the human body and the exciting breakthroughs in science and medical technologies that are changing the course of human health when the new giant screen film experience, Superhuman Body 3D, narrated by Academy Award® winner Matthew McConaughey, makes its west coast premiere at the California Science Center IMAX Theater on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Told through the inspiring stories of researchers, scientists, and the everyday people behind these ground-breaking medical innovations, Superhuman Body 3D shows the extraordinary ways our bodies work – and how science and technology help us to intervene, and even save lives, when our bodies fail us.

Audiences will meet individuals like Ty Duckett, an adaptive athlete with an above-the-knee amputation, who is living life to the fullest thanks to an innovative prosthetic; James Garrett, whose heart condition was treated with an artificial valve so advanced it didn’t require open-heart surgery; and Emily Whitehead, a teen whose childhood leukemia was cured after life-changing CAR T-cell therapy.

Superhuman Body takes us for a tour inside the human body and shares compelling personal stories behind some of the most significant medical breakthroughs of the past decade,” said producer and co-director Shaun MacGillivray, President of MacGillivray Freeman Films. “We show how, when up against the toughest odds, the human body so often triumphs in inspiring ways. You’ll be amazed by what your superhuman body can do!”

The film also features the scientists behind these medical innovations, including Dr. Carl June, who helped invent the CAR T-cell therapy that Whitehead underwent; Dr. Ayanna Howard, a pioneering roboticist who has made major advances in medical robotics; and Dr. Hugh Herr, a double amputee and professor at MIT responsible for major advancements in bionic limbs and prosthetics that provide greater mobility to amputees.

“At the California Science Center, we are dedicated to inspiring curiosity and a passion for science learning in people of all ages,” said Jeffrey Rudolph, President and CEO of the California Science Center. “Superhuman Body 3D showcases the incredible intersection of science, technology and human resilience – sparking wonder and encouraging the next generation of scientists, engineers and medical innovators to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
