Nikon Announces it is Accepting Images for its Nikon Small World Photo Competition and Movies for its Nikon Small World in Motion Video Competition

This competition is open to any images taken through an optical microscope

MELVILLE, N.Y., March 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Nikon Instruments Inc. invites artists and scientists worldwide to submit their photomicrographs and videos to the annual Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition. The competition is open to any images or movies taken through the optical microscope. The deadline to submit is April 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Contestants are eligible to win up to $3,000 and global recognition in top-tier media.

Participants can submit up to three (3) images, each adhering to the competition rules. Contestants are eligible to win up to $3,000 and global recognition in top-tier media. A panel of judges in the science and media fields—to be announced soon—will convene in June in Woods Hole, Massachusetts to select the winning images and videos. Ranking decisions will be based on a combination of criteria, including creativity and originality, informational content, technical proficiency, and artistic as well as visual impact.

While the Nikon Small World competition celebrates 50 years of stunning imagery and video, Nikon Instruments Inc. is also honoring a significant milestone: a century since the introduction of its first microscope, the JOICO, in 1925. The Small World competition is a testament to microscopy’s rich history and contributions to the scientific world.
