Nikon Instruments Announces Opening of Newest Nikon Center of Excellence at the University of Arizona Cancer Center

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Nikon Instruments Inc. announced the opening of its newest Nikon Center of Excellence imaging facility at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona. This new Center will bring state-of-the-art imaging capabilities to the University of Arizona Cancer Center, establishing it as one of the most advanced bioscience imaging facilities in the Western United States.

This Center at the University of Arizona Cancer Center joins Nikon’s global network of more than 20 Centers of Excellence in North America and nearly 40 worldwide. Each facility makes available the latest innovations in imaging technologies to faculty, staff and students from any academic institution, biotechnology organization or other life sciences facility.

This facility hosts six advanced imaging systems including those capable of confocal, super resolution, multiphoton and high content imaging, as well as two image analysis workstations with anesthesia and physiological monitoring tools to support small animal intravital imaging. Also included in this facility is a shared wet lab space and a fully equipped tissue culture facility for short and long-term experiments. The Center will also provide workshops and educational opportunities for the local imaging community.

“Nikon is committed to empowering the scientific community with the most advanced optical microscopy technologies available,” said Andy Davis, director of sales of Nikon Instruments Inc. “We are proud to announce our partnership with the University of Arizona in opening our newest Center of Excellence and look forward to the new discoveries that will come as a result.”

As Nikon continues to develop newer, more advanced technologies, the Nikon Center of Excellence will serve as a hub for demonstrations, education and collaboration throughout the University of Arizona. According to the Center’s Founder, current Director of the Microscopy Shared Resource and associate professor in the U of A College of Medicine, Ghassan Mouneimne, PhD, its influence will extend throughout the campus and beyond. “There is a significant need for imaging at any cancer center, and especially here at the University of Arizona,” Mouneimne said. “Making this technology available to the research community will facilitate scientific advancements by empowering scientists to ask new questions and further their research with novel experiments.”

“The Nikon Center of Excellence is a premier addition to the high-quality services the cancer center offers our researchers and the broader regional community,” added Dan Theodorescu, Nancy C. and Craig M. Berge endowed chair for the director of the cancer center. “I’m excited to bring this facility to our existing hub of multidisciplinary collaboration.”

As Nikon continues to push the boundaries of imaging technology, its Centers of Excellence play a critical role in fostering discovery, collaboration and innovation across the global scientific community.
