Vitalacy Debuts Gen5 Hand Hygiene Wearable with Improved Features

New device offers longer battery life and streamlined design for healthcare workers

LOS ANGELES, June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Vitalacy, Inc., a leading innovator in AI powered patient safety solutions and remote monitoring, is proud to announce the release of its next-generation hand hygiene monitoring device—the Gen5 Wearable. The device will make its debut Monday, June 16th at the APIC25 Annual Conference & Expo in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Gen5 Wearable builds on the trusted legacy of Vitalacy’s hand hygiene technology, delivering 2x extended battery life and a simplified, touch-free design to further reduce caregiver interruptions and support long-term adoption. In response to real-world clinical feedback, Vitalacy has replaced the former color touchscreen with a LED interface while increasing durability and efficiency.

“Vitalacy is committed to designing technology that improves safety without adding burden to the clinical workflow,” said Janel Raanan, CEO and Cofounder of Vitalacy. “With the Gen5 Wearable, we’ve taken a significant step forward—boosting battery performance and streamlining communication so that healthcare workers can stay focused on what matters most: caring for their patients.”

Healthcare organizations are increasingly turning to automated hand hygiene monitoring

The Gen5 Wearable can be worn as a clip on the torso or a band on the wrist of a care provider. Hand hygiene opportunities and events are monitored when entering or exiting patient care areas. If a hand hygiene moment is missed, the Gen5 offers a gentle private vibration to the care provider to encourage hand hygiene. Vitalacy customers have seen a reduction in infections across their hospitals.

To meet the Leapfrog standards, healthcare organizations must complete 200 observations of hand hygiene opportunities per month per unit, with the observations occurring across all days of the week and all shifts. Because of the time commitment and the inherent bias of doing these observations through direct human monitoring, organizations are increasingly turning to automated hand hygiene monitoring solutions to meet Leapfrog’s criteria.
