Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network Notice of Data Privacy Incident

DETROIT, July 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) is providing notice of a data privacy event that affected certain personal information. Data privacy and security is a priority for DWIHN, and we take this event seriously.

What happened? On August 20, 2024, a DWIHN staff member reported a potential compromise of their DWIHN-issued laptop while using it for personal activities. At the time, the staff member was working remotely, and the device was not connected to DWIHN’s IT network or located on DWIHN’s premises. Upon discovery, DWIHN took prompt remedial action by shutting down the device. The laptop was subsequently reviewed by DWIHN’s IT department and an independent third-party forensic team.

What information was involved? Based on a thorough investigation of the data, it was determined that information related to individual’s name, Medical Record Number, Medicaid Number, Medicare Number, Diagnosis, Diagnostic Testing, Case Notes, Discharge Plans, and Physician Notes was accessed by the unauthorized party. At this time, we are not aware of any misuse of this information.

What are we doing? On or about October 14, 2024, DWIHN sent written notification of the incident to all affected individuals, along with access to complimentary 12-Month membership in Equifax® Credit Watch Gold. DWIHN has made immediate enhancements to our systems, security and practices. Additionally, we have launched additional DWIHN-wide security awareness and phishing prevention campaigns over the past six months to further protect the organization against similar attacks in the future. We are committed to helping those people who may have been impacted by this unfortunate situation.

What can you do? For individuals seeking more information or who have questions, contact the dedicated toll-free helpline at 844-218-4457, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 9 pm Eastern Time.

We deeply regret any concern or inconvenience this incident may cause. Please rest assured that DWIHN has taken appropriate steps to mitigate the breach and remains committed to ongoing mitigation efforts to protect the privacy and security of affected individuals.
