Mountain Laurel Dermatology Notifies Individuals of Data Security Incident

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Mountain Laurel Dermatology (“MLD”) is providing notice of a recent data security incident that may have involved personal and/or protected health information. MLD takes the privacy and security of all information within its possession very seriously. MLD has sent notice of this incident to potentially affected individuals and provided resources to assist them.

On May 12, 2025, MLD became aware of unusual activity involving one of our external cloud-based network systems. MLD immediately took steps to secure the systems and engaged independent experts to conduct an independent investigation. The investigation revealed that certain data could have been accessed or acquired without authorization. MLD thereafter worked to identify individuals whose information was potentially involved and gathered contact information needed to provide notice. These efforts concluded on June 27, 2025, at which time MLD arranged to send letters to all potentially affected individuals with an available mailing address.

Based on MLD’s review of the potentially affected data, the following information may have been involved in the incident: Names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, insurance claim or billing information, test results, and/or other medical treatment or diagnosis information. Of note, not all information was involved for all individuals and the incident did not involve unauthorized access to MLD’s electronic medical records system.

As soon as MLD discovered this incident, it took the steps described above and implemented measures to further enhance the security of its network environment and minimize the risk of a similar incident occurring in the future. MLD has established a toll-free call center to answer questions about the incident and address related concerns. Call center representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern Time, excluding holidays, and can be reached at 833-380-4913.

The privacy and protection of personal and protected health information is a top priority for MLD. MLD deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.
