ThisWayUp Launches to Empower Women and Teens with Free Mental Health Resources

CHICAGO, July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – A bold new mental health movement is launching today from the heart of Chicago: ThisWayUp, a frank and empowering digital platform supporting the emotional well-being of women and teens, with free resources grounded in science, elevated by storytelling, and guided by expert insight.

With women across the U.S. facing record levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout, ThisWayUp meets the moment with honest, accessible, and stigma-free support. The platform features long-form video interviews, practical tools, and lived experiences, all curated for women and girls navigating life’s everyday pressures and deeper struggles alike.

Founded by Cat Miller—Harvard MBA, former investment banker, and longtime Chicago resident—ThisWayUp is rooted in her personal story. After navigating her own mental health struggles—often in silence—and seeing her daughter face similar challenges, Miller knew she had to create the kind of support system she so desperately needed.

Backed by a multidisciplinary advisory board of teens, mothers, clinicians, and educators, ThisWayUp brings together real stories and scientific credibility to foster emotional literacy, connection, and hope for change. Launch contributors include:

  • Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichl, professor at the University of Illinois and a leading expert in social-emotional learning
  • Nina Purewal, bestselling author and wellness educator
  • Youth advisors from across Chicago and the U.S.

“We know from decades of research that social-emotional well-being is foundational to a person’s ability to thrive—at home, in school, and in life,” said Dr. Schonert-Reichl. “What makes ThisWayUp so powerful is its ability to bring together real stories, trusted science, and a sense of belonging.”

A Chicago-Born Solution to a National Crisis
While national in scope, ThisWayUp proudly reflects Chicago’s spirit of resilience, innovation, and community. Developed locally, the platform is designed especially for women and girls who may not have access to traditional mental health care.

Key features include:

  • Long-form video conversations with experts in mental health and wellness
  • Articles, tools, and best practices grounded in research
  • Raw, honest storytelling from women and girls navigating growth and adversity
  • Free access, with no ads and no paywalls

ThisWayUp is supported by Legacy+, a mission-driven organization focused on developing social impact platforms that foster enduring change.

Watch. Share. Speak.
The launch begins with a powerful call to action:  Watch. Share. Speak.
The launch invites individuals, educators, caregivers, and organizations to:

  • Watch featured video conversations at thiswayup.life
  • Share content to spark honest dialogue
  • Speak openly about mental health—with vulnerability, honesty, and hope
