U.S. Anesthesia Partners and Apella Collaborate to Improve the Operating Room Environment

Collaboration will focus on hospitals that would benefit from operating room intelligence to reduce downtime and improve the patient experience

SAN FRANCISCO and DALLAS, July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Apella, a health technology company, and U.S. Anesthesia Partners, Inc. (USAP) announced today that they will work together to identify health care facilities that can benefit from actionable, real-time intelligence to improve operating room readiness and utilization.

Providing anesthesia care for patients in 600 plus hospitals and surgery centers, physician-led USAP has significant experience working with facilities to improve the patient experience—not only with excellence in care, but also through efficient staffing, scheduling and forecasting of resources, which provides patients with greater access and reduces the overall cost of care.

Using ambient technology and AI in the OR, Apella collects new data without active human intervention, providing a 360-degree view of surgical suites that keeps things running efficiently. Apella provides busy hospitals, including major hospitals in Texas and Florida, with real-time operational intelligence. This technology eliminates delays, distractions, and inefficiencies in the OR throughout the day, empowering the surgical team with the tools they need to serve more patients and still go home on time.

We think advanced technologies like Apella are part of the solution to the challenge of OR efficiency,” said USAP’s Jeff Terry, EVP of Health System Strategy. “USAP clinicians work on OR efficiency daily with our hospital partners. Apella’s ambient cameras enable a new higher level of performance. We’ve seen the impact in several hospitals we serve and are optimistic about the potential to build on that success.”

“When operating rooms run smoothly, everyone wins—from the surgeon making critical decisions to the anesthesiologist monitoring patient safety to the nurses coordinating care,” said David Schummers, Apella CEO. “Our technology empowers the entire perioperative team to work at the top of their license, so they can dedicate their time to delivering the best care.”
