CHICAGO, Sept. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In partnership with The Reunion Project, long-term survivor, activist, and award-winning writer Mark S. King will celebrate his 65th birthday with a virtual event on Wednesday, December 17, at 8:00 PM ET—turning a personal milestone into a global tribute to HIV/AIDS survivors. Registration is free at www.Markis65.com.
The event launch arrives just a week before National HIV and Aging Awareness Day (September 18, 2025), a timely reminder that half of people living with HIV in the U.S. are over the age of 50. King’s milestone birthday underscores the progress of HIV treatment, while highlighting the challenges and resilience of those aging with HIV.
“When I was diagnosed in the 1980s, reaching 65 felt impossible,” said King. “This birthday isn’t just about me—it’s about celebrating the entire community of survivors and recognizing that aging with HIV is both a triumph and a call for continued action.”
King is no stranger to high-profile birthday events. His 60th celebration featured appearances from Olympic champion Greg Louganis and an unforgettable video message from Sir Elton John and David Furnish, who honored survivors and sang “Happy Birthday.” This year’s 65th promises even more celebrity surprises and community tributes.
The program will also raise funds for The Reunion Project, the alliance of long-term survivors of HIV. Donations are optional at registration. The event will livestream on the social media channels of The Reunion Project, My Fabulous Disease, POZ Magazine, and others.
An exclusive virtual after-party will follow the main event, with access reserved for registered guests.
“As we mark National HIV and Aging Awareness Day, this celebration reminds us of the incredible resilience of long-term survivors while also underscoring the urgent need to address the unique health and social challenges of aging with HIV,” said Jeff Berry, Executive Director of The Reunion Project. “Mark’s milestone is a shared victory for our community, and we’re thrilled to be part of it.”
