Vizbodx Inc. Launches Sports Medicine Advisory Board with NATA Hall of Fame Inductees Dr. Ron Courson and Dr. Rod Walters

Two Distinguished Experts will co-chair the Vizbodx Sports Medicine Advisory Board

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Vizbodx Inc., a pioneer in advanced thermal imaging solutions for sports and occupational medicine, today announced the launch of its Sports Medicine Advisory Board with the appointments of two NATA Hall of Fame inductees: Ron Courson, ATC, Executive Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Health and Performance at the University of Georgia, and Rod Walters, DA, ATC, National Director of Athlete Safety for Andrews Athlete.

Together, Dr. Courson and Dr. Walters will help ensure that Vizbodx’s advanced thermal imaging solutions are optimized for sports medicine and exceed the clinical and operational expectations of team physicians and athletic trainers.

Dr. Courson was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 2013 and received the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2005. He served 30 years as the University of Georgia’s Director of Sports Medicine, setting the standard for athletic training and sports medicine throughout collegiate athletics.

Courson’s international expertise includes serving as an athletic trainer with the U.S. Olympic Team at the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and as chief athletic trainer for track and field at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Courson currently serves on the NFL Health and Safety Committee and the USA Football Medical Advisory Board and has held leadership positions including president of the SEC Sports Medicine Committee.

Courson authored the textbook “Athletic Training Emergency Care” and has published extensively on sports medicine safety. He serves as an adjunct instructor in the University of Georgia’s nationally accredited athletic training education program.

Dr. Walters was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 2005 and received NATA’s Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2003. His 27-year career in collegiate athletics included positions at Lenoir-Rhyne College, Appalachian State University, and the University of South Carolina, where he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine from 1990 to 2007.

In professional sports, Walters has served as a concussion subject matter expert and spotter for the NFL, including during the 2019 Super Bowl, and as a consultant to Major League Baseball Professional Umpires and the Big 12 Conference. Recently, Walters joined Andrews Athlete as National Director of Athlete Safety for the organization co-founded by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, where Dr. Courson also serves as an advisor.

“Great tools in medicine result from active listening to those responsible for the outcome of clinical decisions” said Barry Hix, Chief Executive Officer of Vizbodx. “Ron and Rod’s expertise in collegiate athletics, professional sports, and Olympic competition will inform and help shape our approach to development and innovation in thermal imaging solutions for sports medicine, ensuring that we remain focused on the most critical clinical and operational challenges facing physicians, surgeons, and trainers. Under Ron and Rod’s direction, we will build a network of sports medicine thought leaders who will challenge Vizbodx to realize its promise in sports medicine.”
