Dr. Jennifer Robinson Calls for Greater Access to Mental Health Care

Detroit Psychiatrist Urges Individuals to Break Barriers and Take the First Step

DETROIT, MI / ACCESS Newswire / October 8, 2025 / Dr. Jennifer Robinson, a board-certified psychiatrist and Director of Psychiatric Services at Integral Psychiatric and Recovery Services, is raising awareness about the need for greater accessibility in mental health care. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in hospitals, recovery centers, and telehealth, she emphasizes that the most powerful step begins at home-with individuals seeking help.

“Helping others improve their mental health and functioning is my passion,” Robinson said. “Every person deserves access to care that fits their needs, not the other way around.”

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, yet over 50% receive no treatment. For many, barriers such as cost, transportation, and stigma prevent them from getting help. Robinson’s telehealth practice was built to address these gaps, particularly for rural patients, single parents, and those with limited resources.

“When barriers come down, patients are more likely to seek help before reaching a crisis point,” Robinson explained.

Robinson also challenges misconceptions about care. “One of the biggest myths is that seeking help is weakness,” she said. “It actually takes strength to face mental health challenges. It should be seen the same way as going to a doctor for a broken bone.”

Her advice is clear: small steps matter. “Even reaching out for an initial conversation can open doors you didn’t think possible,” Robinson noted.

Individuals are encouraged to take ownership of their mental health by starting with simple steps: talking to a trusted friend, scheduling a first appointment, or learning more about treatment options. Community members can also support one another by reducing stigma, sharing resources, and promoting open conversations about mental health.
