Registration Now Open for the American College of Diabetology Board Exam

Board certification offers recognition, credibility and expanded opportunities for diabetes-focused physicians

FAYETTEVILLE, NC / ACCESS Newswire / October 9, 2025 / The American College of Diabetology (ACD) has announced that registration is now open for its 2025 Board Certification Exam, offering physicians specializing in diabetes care the opportunity to formally validate their expertise and strengthen their professional credentials.

Board certification through ACD provides primary care physicians with a recognized mark of excellence in diabetology, a growing field recently classified as a distinct medical specialty. For physicians who already manage a significant volume of diabetes patients, the exam offers a pathway to differentiate their practice in an increasingly complex field.

“Diabetes affects millions of Americans, yet primary care physicians who care for these patients are rarely recognized for their proficiency in the field,” said Dr. Lenny Salzberg, Chair of ACD. “Board certification allows physicians already focused on diabetes care to demonstrate their capabilities, enhance credibility with patients and peers, and distinguish themselves as demand for specialized care grows.”

Benefits of ACD Board Certification include:

  • Accessible pathway: Certification offers formal recognition of expertise without disrupting existing clinical practice or requiring additional fellowship training.

  • Professional growth: The diabetology community provides opportunities for networking and career advancement through industry events such as the ACD Annual Conference.

  • Practice differentiation: Certified diabetologists can market themselves and their practices as specialists in diabetes care to attract patients seeking specialized treatment.

Eligible physicians can sit for the ACD Board Exam through 2028. Registration for the ACD board exam is open through Nov. 1, 2025. To view eligibility requirements and register, visit www.acdiabetology.org/certify.
